… a blog post from Chairman’s Corner

Hey there!  Chairman from Spinney Media here.  I currently enjoy freaking out and creating panic with my spastic rock band Nasalrod, which is based in Portland, Oregon. I created this blog to share my serious love of music, the arts, and physical media.

It just so happens that Portland is an incredible town for physical media! Here in PDX, we have the esteemed institution known as Movie Madness.  More than just a video store…it’s a museum of movie history with legendary props & costumes all over the place. The store contains 90,000+ movie titles on Blu-ray, DVD, and even VHS! There’s something exciting about not always letting Netflix dictate your viewing habits. In addition to MM, Portland is the home of Cascade Record Pressing, the very first large production record pressing plant here in the Pacific Northwest (not to mention that my bandmate Mandy works there)! PDX also has TONS of compelling record stores that are filled with wonderful, rare oddities.

Buying physical media is simply the best way to support your fave artists – and (personally speaking) the ability to accumulate and display a collection of music that I’ve been inspired by is an extraordinary feeling. There are many other benefits to physical media, but let’s save those for another time.

I previously shipped TONS of physical media in CD Baby’s warehouse for many years. Now, here at Spinney’s warehouse, I’m verrry excited to be back in the game of working with tangible vinyl, CDs, cassettes and more. I am also excited to connect with YOU.
